The Missing Passport

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.”—John 14:1, NIV

My husband and I went on a ten-day Taste of Europe tour with two of my girlfriends. There was a lot of fun and laughter as we breezed through six countries.

Highlights of the tour included a visit to Stonehenge and Bath City in England, the Atomium in Brussels, Belgium, a Rhine River cruise and the walled city of Rothenberg in Germany, the famous balcony of Juliet in Verona and a gondola ride in Venezia, Italy, the scenic view of the Alps in Austria and the fascinating city of Innsbruck, the boat ride around beautiful Lake Luzerne, and a cable car ride to the top of Mount Stanserhorn where we could see Lake Luzerne, the Swiss Alps, and the surrounding communities nestled on the mountain slopes of Switzerland. The tour ended in Paris, France, where the bustle of city life was a far cry from the serenity of the countryside.

We visited the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Versailles Palace, and the Louvre, among other places. We walked along the city streets of Paris, sightseeing and searching for souvenirs to take back home.

We parted ways at the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris when it was time to return to the USA: one friend was flying to Florida while two of us flew to Maryland.

As I was wandering near the gate waiting for our flight, I reached into my bag and realized that my passport and ticket were missing.

I knew that I had them when I went through security. I wasn’t sure whether they fell out or someone took them. I breathed a prayer heavenward and looked for an airport security officer to report the loss. I didn’t want to miss my flight home, and I prayed that God would help me find the missing documents.

The security officer told me to go back to the person in charge of the aisle where I went through. Praise the Lord! They had found my passport and ticket in one of the bins! I must have neglected to pick it up in my haste to get out of the security area. We are going on another journey someday. Our heavenly Father is preparing a beautiful mansion for us, grander than any earthly palace we may have seen.

My prayer is that we will be ready when He comes to take us home. We do not need passports or tickets. The only thing we can bring is our character made clean by the blood of the Lamb poured out on Calvary’s cross!
