Throughout February, we think of hearts, flowers, cards, and love.
We wonder how to express our love to others.
But what about when we do not feel loved and are afraid? David wrote about needing help when he was afraid. He felt fear in his heart because King Saul was seeking to kill him.
As he was hiding, he may have remembered stories from the Scriptures about Moses and the fears he faced and how God took care of him.
Moses had written, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . . for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV), and “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (verse 8, NIV). When Joshua took Moses’ place to lead the children of Israel to the Promised Land, God told him, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, NIV). Three times God repeated, “Be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:6, 7, 9).
What a blessing we find in the Bible as it speaks to what we need in our lives—peace, guidance, trust, comfort. David took courage and wrote about it too.
“And He shall strengthen your heart” (Psalm 27:14, NKJV).
He knew that God is willing and ready to give us strength, confidence, and peace of mind as we go through each day. This past week, I worked on a project for a friend who lost almost everything in the California fires. I wanted to share memories from our lives together.
I am making her a memory album with pictures.
When I went to make some copies at the store, I realized it was going to be expensive. I asked the store manager if they had a sale on the copies I was making.
He looked at the current sale, which described a different project from what I was doing, but he said to the young lady helping me, “Give her that sale price on these copies.” I was so blessed! I ended up paying less than half of what I had expected to pay! God strengthened my heart. He loves and cares for us and helps us as we depend upon Him.
May He strengthen your heart today.
