The Special Trip

Play/Pause Stop
In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. —John 14:2, 3, NKJV

After completing a second master’s degree in my mid-fifties, I began my new career as a school counselor at an elementary school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States of America. I loved my new position. Every day was different—except for one thing.

There was always a crisis. It was emotionally draining, but I knew God had placed me there because I had only one interview for a counseling job after graduation.

The interview had gone so well that I was offered the job on the spot.

Months later, as I was driving to work one morning, I saw one of my students walking to school with his mother. I had seen her walking him to school before.

On this morning, as I watched, a big smile crossed my face.

They were taking their daily trip to my place! The anticipation that he was on his way to me filled me with joy. That made me think about another trip.

There is Someone who wants me to come to His place.

My sincere desire is to go to Jesus’ home one day.

That thought brings me more joy than I can ever express.

But it makes me wonder, When Jesus thinks about me coming to His place, does it fill His heart with joy? Does a big smile cross His face in anticipation of welcoming me into His home? I think it does, for today’s scripture says, “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2, 3, NKJV). Just reading those verses lets me know that my Father is indeed smiling with anticipation and joy at the thought of my taking a special trip to Him.

But it is not just me whom He wants to see. He wants all of us to come.

That is why He is preparing a home for us.

So why do not we all prepare to go to His place, too? There is no better trip we can take!
