A number of years ago, I was scheduled for surgery to remove a cyst from my left foot after the results from an MRI had determined surgery would be the only solution. When I received the paperwork for a preoperative assessment, I became anxious.
The document listed the procedures that would be performed under general anesthetic. I remembered my mother, a diabetic, who had had surgery to her big toe.
She eventually ended up with an amputated leg.
I asked the members of my Stanborough Park Church in Watford, England, and many others to intensify their prayers asking God to remove the cyst.
Two days before the surgery, I cried out to God, “Lord, please let this cup pass from me!” On Monday, the cyst was still there, but I felt at peace because I knew God had a reason for anything He allowed. The next day I went in for surgery at Saint Alban’s Hospital.
An anesthetist, in preparation for the procedure, marked the area with a purple dye while discussing the risks with me. They were frightening.
I may not wake up from the anesthesia. I will have a big scar on my foot.
I could bleed profusely, and there is no guarantee the swelling will ease.
With my troubled thoughts, the anxiety returned.
When the anesthetist left the room I prayed, “Why are You allowing this, Lord? I asked You to remove the cyst.” Then I began to sing “Under His Wings.” Fifteen minutes later, the anesthetist returned. “Mrs. Allen, we are ready.” I will never forget the next words.
“Where is the cyst?” Puzzled, I replied, “In the same place where it was.” Then I looked down at my foot. The cyst had disappeared! The anesthetist called the entire medical team. After carefully examining my foot, the medical staff canceled the surgery.
The consultant said, “It must have been a ganglion that dissolved.” I told them God had heard my prayer. My doctor concluded that it was a miracle.
I can assure you, my friends, God still performs miracles.
He orders our steps.
He has a reason for every challenge He allows in our lives—and has His own solutions. Oh! Let us sing His praises and tell everyone about His miracles.
