Before You Ask

Play/Pause Stop
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. —Matthew 7:7, KJV

Have you ever asked God for something, and His response was so immediate that it made your head spin? This is one of those experiences.

Both my husband and I needed new glasses.

While I needed them, he desperately needed a new pair.

I had been wearing mine for about two or three years, and by the optometrist’s instruction, I was to have my eyes examined biannually to see whether I needed to have them changed, and, more importantly, to check for glaucoma because it runs in my family.

I was accustomed to hearing my optometrist say, “Your eyes have not changed very much, but to be on the safe side, you should get new glasses.” My husband, on the other hand, had been wearing his for eight years, so it was definitely time for a change.

We prayed, “God, you know that this is a need and not a want. We need new glasses, and they do not come cheap. Lord, we need You to handle this in the time and manner You deem appropriate.” I decided to head to our regular provider to have my eyes tested and then have them give me an estimated cost for the package, which included frames, transition lenses, and antireflective coating. I chose my frames and made a deposit toward the cost of everything, and the process began. I would have the first appointment, and my husband would follow. Later that week, a friend called and said, “You know, I have been wanting to get you both a gift for some time now, but I have not been able to decide what to get you. I heard you say you needed glasses—so I decided that is what I would get you.” For both of us? I thought to myself. Who does that? They were not cheap! The answer is God.

Three weeks later, we were both walking around with better vision in our new glasses, all because God chose to answer our prayer right away.

He used a generous friend to answer our prayer.

He told us in His Word to ask and believe, and He will give us the desires of our hearts if we ask according to His will. That does not mean that if He does not answer immediately, we should not ask again. He is always on time. Just ask Him.

He will come through for you.
