In God We Trust

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. —Matthew 10:29–31, KJV

How many people can you find on a US one hundred dollar bill?” Mom asked. “One,” little Arya answered, chuckling. “Who is it?” Mom probed. “Benjamin Franklin,” Arya replied, giggling again. “What do people often call the US one-hundred-dollar bill?” “I do not know.” Arya shrugged. “They are called Benjamins, Franklins, or Bens,” Mom explained.

“Now look closely. Do you see any more people on it?” “No, Mom, there is no one else on it!” Arya exclaimed, snickering. You might be surprised to learn there are six people on the US$100 bill: Benjamin Franklin, the treasurer of the United States, the secretary of the Treasury, two people in front of the clock tower, and most importantly, God.

On top of the bill is the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST.” This is the official motto of the United States, adopted in 1956 when President Dwight Eisenhower required it to appear on all American currency, both coin and paper. If a currency is demonetized, it is stripped of its value. Today, too many little girls and women feel stripped of their worth.

They develop low self-esteem and think they are not smart, pretty, or good enough. Satan has perverted God’s love to devalue us and make us feel undeserving and unloved. But praise God, our value never diminishes.

God died for us, rose again, and defeated the grave.

If we confess our sins and believe in Him, we shall not die.

We are worth more than mere money.

When we put our trust, faith, and hope in God, He gives us eternal life.

Let us read our Bibles, surrender, and submit ourselves in prayer, growing in our walk with Jesus each day. Remember, you are worth more than the number of your Facebook friends, your good looks, bank accounts, accomplishments, or educational degrees.

When you trust in God and keep Him in your heart, you will discover this truth—you are worth more!
