I Shall Not Want

Have you ever felt the joy and peace that come from watching God step in to help you in a situation that seemed impossible to solve? Let us look at how David found peace and joy in Psalm 23. Knowing that God fulfills this role and that I will lack nothing brings me peace. David describes peace: “You let me rest in fields of green grass.

You lead me to streams of peaceful water” (verse 2, CEV).

Life is not easy, it is not fair, and the truth is that sometimes it consumes all the energy we have. But here, David reminds us, You refresh my life.

You are true to your name, and you lead me along the right paths.

I may walk through valleys as dark as death, but I won’t be afraid.

You are with me, and your shepherd’s rod makes me feel safe (verses 3, 4, CEV). Fear is a natural human emotion. The world today is in turmoil.

Danger is found in many places, and yet David affirms his trust in God in verse 4. We know that limits are used in love. In this way, the rod represents the limits God gives us through His Word. And as for His staff, it is used to direct us and show us the way.

I love verse 6: Your kindness and love will always be with me each day of my life, and I will live forever in your house, LORD (CEV).

We can affirm that if we are with God even through the valleys, our Shepherd will bring goodness and love into our lives.
