God’s GPS

Play/Pause Stop
And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. —Luke 15:9, KJV

I received a phone call on Father’s Day from an elderly couple whom I met during college, inquiring how I was coping, considering I had lost my dad two years prior. During the initial pleasantries, I discovered that my friend could not chat long because she had misplaced a bunch of keys to her rental properties, as well as to their own home.

Those of us who have lost keys will understand.

You can imagine her level of panic at this point.

Later the same day, she called and apologized for our earlier encounter.

I told her I wished I could help and then shared with her various experiences of how I had prayed when I had lost keys or other items and then had found them when I least expected to. The next morning, I called her to learn of her progress.

I could feel the warmth of her smile through the phone.

She told me she followed the advice to pray.

She had located the keys that morning during family worship when her husband moved his leg, and she heard the jingling of keys. What joy! All worrying and a sleepless night had ended. Prayer worked! This incident led me to think about how, just like my friend, we lose valuable things in our daily life. It may be a job, a pay cut during the pandemic, a relationship, or peace of mind. I have also experienced losses, big and small, from missing keys to a parent dying in front of me to a layoff at Enron at the age of twenty-one while living alone in a big city.

But anything that is lost can be found with God’s intervention.

Three months after my layoff, God provided another job that had me traveling the world and exploring sights in my free time.

Just as GPS receivers are intended to pinpoint our location and give directions to our destinations, if we allow God to be our GPS, He will set us back on track and rejoice with us. Will you allow Him to be the global positioning system in your life through the turbulence of loss? The Bible promises us, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, KJV). His provisions are endless.

Stay connected to God’s GPS signals, and you will always find your way.
