On a Mission

Play/Pause Stop
I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” —Isaiah 6:8, NKJV

Prayer meeting was in progress, and Sister Dee began to testify.

She had received several traffic tickets via mail.

“Honey, you have accumulated so many tickets that if the police stop you again and your tickets have not been paid, they may arrest you,” my husband explained to her. “I am going to jail,” she replied. “There is no reason for you to get arrested. We have enough money to cover those tickets. I will pay them for you,” he pleaded.

Unbeknown to me, our son was listening and said in a boisterous voice, “I will go and pay them now.” “I do not want either of you to pay them for me,” Sister Dee snapped. “I am not going to pay them. I am going to jail. I want you to bring my Bible, some study guides, and some tracts. The inmates need to hear about the love of Jesus, and I am going to tell them!” As fate would have it, Sister Dee was stopped by a police officer shortly afterward and escorted to jail. After she had been booked, she was placed in the general holding cell.

One of the correction officers noticed that the area in which Sister Dee had been placed was suddenly quiet. Sister Dee had every inmate’s undivided attention.

They were sitting in a semi-circle facing her, listening attentively as she told them about the love of Jesus. The officer quickly informed his superior of this, and he was instructed to call her husband immediately to come and take her home.

When Sister Dee learned she was being discharged, she began to protest. “But I am guilty,” she shouted. “I have not paid my tickets. I do not even get a chance to spend the night?” “Your debt has been satisfied,” the officer replied. “You do not owe us anything.” Her mission had been accomplished. Now I have heard of a few people getting kicked out of various places, but I have never heard of anyone getting kicked out of jail.

If God were to ask today, “Whom shall I send?” what would your answer be? Would you say, “Here am I; send me”?
