When God Grew My Faith

Play/Pause Stop
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. —Romans 5:1, KJV

My daughter Haley recently purchased a new car.

It had been five years since she graduated college, and she finally decided that getting a loan was not a bad idea. She planned to sell or trade in her old 2000 Mercury Sable. However, the dealership would not give her what she thought her car was worth.

She had owned it since she was in tenth grade.

She used it through college, driving from Arkansas to Texas many times. It was a faithful, trustworthy car. When her peers would say things like, “Oh, hey, you got a grandma car!” She would just smile and say, “Yeah, but I have a car.” That always seemed to take care of it. She decided to sell her car to Mechee, the assistant dean at the academy.

Mechee needed a vehicle, and Haley gave her a good deal.

She took care of transfering the insurance and licensing the car, and we thought everything had been taken care of. Then, a couple of days ago, Mechee told me, “The DMV called to tell me the title you gave me was the first title. They said they had given you a second title, and that is the one they need.” Then I remembered. Haley had lost her title, and we had been issued a second one. I told Mechee I would look again for the correct title.

I keep all our titles in a small fireproof safe.

I went through it carefully and could not find the Mercury title.

I told Mechee to call the DMV and find out what we needed to do.

They told her we would need to apply for a new title and give it to Mechee.

Once she had it, she would have to send it to the DMV, and then the DMV would have to issue her a new title. We were devastated.

Mechee planned to drive home in two weeks.

Her home was in New York. She needed her title now! “God knows where that title is,” Mechee said. “Let us pray and see what He can do to help us find it.” She prayed a wonderful prayer, telling God we knew He did not want us to waste time or money, and asking for Him to help me find the title. Personally, I did not think I would find it.

I went to the safe again, and then out of nowhere, I saw an envelope marked “Mercury Sable Title.” I know I did not see this yesterday, I thought.

I opened the envelope, and there it was—right in my hands. The very one we needed. God blessed us—and grew my faith. God is so good. I praise Him for growing our faith!
