An Unspoken Request

Play/Pause Stop
But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:19, KJV

I always look forward to my Sunday morning walk.

After my devotions on one particular Sunday, I called a friend and asked her to join me. She responded in the affirmative, but as I was not yet ready, I asked her to walk toward my house, thus giving me a little extra time to prepare.

Oops, I thought to myself. Why didn’t I ask her to bring me a few hot peppers? In the interest of time, I decided not to call her back.

The walk was refreshing and invigorating.

As we were getting ready to separate, she told her granddaughter, who had come along for the walk, to give me the bag she had been carrying.

Inside were some ripe bananas, some chochos, and yes—you guessed it—a whole bag of ripe, green hot peppers! Delighted, I shared with her right then and there how I had wanted to ask her for hot peppers but chose not to call.

This simple experience holds a valuable lesson on how the Lord provides and meets our every need, answering both the expressed and unexpressed desires of our hearts.

The flavor of a hot pepper is certainly not one of our most pressing necessities when cooking; it is simply a personal taste. And yet God provided in abundance, so I was able to share.

This faith-building experience helped prove that God relates to us on an individual basis. If He could provide hot peppers when I needed them, He can surely take care of any other need that might arise. As His daughters, we can always entrust ourselves to His care. He constantly supplies our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

As long as our desires are in keeping with the plans He has for us, we can boldly approach Him, assured that He knows what we need even before we ask.

God’s greatest desire is that we be ready to inhabit the place He is preparing for us. What a joyful day that will be when we meet Him face-to-face and share eternity with Him. Thanks, Lord, for your provisions, for my family and friends, and for my job.

Thank You for the many faith-building experiences You have given me.

May I always be a willing witness for You.
