Singing in the Rain

Play/Pause Stop
We know how much God loves us because we have felt his love and because we believe him when he tells us that he loves us dearly. God is love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him. —1 John 4:16, TLB

Many years ago, due to circumstances brought about by my own wrong choices, I was on the brink of despair. It seemed all I could do was cry from morning until night. It was all I could do simply to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

One day, while I was standing at the kitchen sink washing dishes, I felt deep within my soul that I was dishonoring my heavenly Father by my constant sadness and despair.

My situation had not changed, but I decided I wanted to let God and all heaven know I was not yet ready to throw in the towel.

Even though I was hurting so terribly, I wanted to sing God a song of praise and sing it with all my heart. Even in my deep distress, He had been so good to me, so how could I not thank Him for still claiming me as His precious child? With my hands still in the dishwater, tears pouring down my cheeks, and my face lifted to heaven, I began to sing in a small, shaky voice, “Jesus loves me, this I know . . .” Singing while weeping is not the loveliest sound you will ever hear! As I listened to the off-key, squeaky sounds coming out of my mouth, I wondered how in the world this kind of ghastly music could be pleasing to God, but I determined not to stop! Over and over, I sang the little song until I began to feel that heaven accepted my worship, and I was comforted.

When your day has been long and exhausting, when there has been a crisis and everything comes to a standstill, when you are sick and tired of being at the end of your rope, there is always room for a song. So lift your face to heaven, and never mind if the tears start to flow. If you cannot think of a song to sing, then sing what I sang.

Jesus loves me, this I know for the Bible tells me so, Little ones to Him belong they are weak, but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so. Sing it over and over until you feel His peace and you are covered with His presence.
