People Are the Mission!

Play/Pause Stop
For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. —2 Corinthians 2:15, NASB

The Big Mac has been consumed more than 550 million times in the United States of America since its creation in the late 1960s. Why has it been so popular? Effective advertising! Maybe you have heard the catchy little jingle that everyone learned in the 70s.

“Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions all on a sesame seed bun!” When people heard this tune, their mouths began to water! Well, that is, if you ate hamburgers—and even if you did not, a veggie patty fit in there just fine! That is what my family did while out on the road with the bookmobile for the Iowa-Missouri Adventist Book Center in the North American Division. There were not many places that offered quick vegetarian options, and we were tired of bean burritos! We were excited to have our version of the Big Mac just the same. You may want to try it! You know, word-of-mouth advertising is powerful, especially when you are passionate about the product. When someone or something changes your life or exceeds your expectation, it is only natural to feel compelled to tell others.

So how is your passion for Jesus? Do you share His mission for lost souls? I believe the world is hungering and thirsting for something better, something true and trustworthy. Do they see how excited you are to walk with Jesus? Do they want to experience what you have? Here is a simple way to remember our mission to share Jesus with others.

Using a Big Mac as an object lesson, you could say that God is like the bottom bun. Everything rests on Him. The whole experience is built on Him.

He is the foundation. The Holy Spirit adds the special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions. He comforts, teaches, transforms us, and makes us more like Jesus. Jesus is the patty and top bun! He goes through the struggles in the middle of life with us, and He covers us with His righteous robe! Maybe our jingle should be, “Jesus loves me, this I know . . .” Let us keep singing it, my friends! People are listening!
