Make Over Story

God is so amazing, and as broken as we are, He can take us and make us into something new. This came to mind when I bought a new dress.

I knew it was damaged when I bought it.

The lace in the front had been torn by customers trying it on.

But it was such a beautiful dress that even though it was torn, I could see how amazing it would be if I could find the right person to repair it.

The dress was considered damaged, so I got a huge discount on the price. Who does not like a discount? I determined to take it home and find someone to repair it—then it would be good as new! The dress hung in my closet for almost four years.

When I had an upcoming wedding to attend, I decided it was time to get serious about getting it repaired. I went with a friend, and we searched the fabric stores looking for the right matching lace to replace the old, torn piece.

We found it—the identical color lace to repair the part of the dress that was torn! I gave it to my friend to take to her mother, a seamstress.

In a few days, my dress was ready, and even though I had not seen it, I was confident that her mom had done a good job.

As she brought the dress to me, she held up the old lace and said, “My mom had to rip it all out because there was no way she could salvage it.” I felt a little nervous as I waited for her to pull the dress out of the bag. Then I saw it. It was perfect! It was amazing—the workmanship was excellent. It almost looked, dare I say it, better than it did in its original state. I was so pleased. This got me thinking about how much we are like that dress.

We are broken, worn out, and damaged, and we seem to have lost our true value. God sees us in our brokenness, yet He values us no less than when He created us.

He promises to take us and make us over—to make us completely new.

That is what God does for us if we are willing to give ourselves fully to him.

Like the seamstress, He rips out the old fabric, every bit of it.

He must remove the old ways, the bad habits, and the things that are not good, and then He replaces the old fabric of sin with His new robe of righteousness.

At His touch, we become a new and beautiful creation. He forms us as women of amazing value! How wonderful He is!
