God’s Provisions Are Beyond Amazing

Play/Pause Stop
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:19, NKJV

On a hot afternoon late one summer, I decided to go to my bedroom and rest. While resting, I pondered the recent turn of events in our lives.

My contract with GIZ Zambia (German Agency for International Cooperation) had ended several months before, and my husband had been out of work for more than two years. We had used up our savings finalizing our retirement home and paying school fees for our five children. My thoughts turned to the girls’ schoolbags.

They needed to be replaced, and school was set to open in a week.

As my thoughts lingered on how we would replace their bags, I somehow drifted to sleep. A few minutes into my nap, I was awakened by a phone call.

Looking at the number, I recognized it was from my sister who resides abroad. Eagerly, I answered her call, and after exchanging pleasantries, she quickly got to the point of why she was calling. She wanted to alert me that she had forwarded some boxes containing an assortment of goodies for the family back home. She wanted my husband to facilitate the picking up of the boxes. Her next words literally had me crying tears of thanksgiving.

She said she had included two schoolbags for the girls among the other goodies she was sending. She did not understand why I was sobbing.

After composing myself, I told her that a few minutes before drifting to sleep, I had been thinking about the girls’ bags, which needed changing, but I could not quite figure out how I was going to do it with the financial challenges we were facing.

But here was God making provision in a way I had not anticipated—through her. The promise in Isaiah came alive in my mind: “It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear” (Isaiah 65:24, NKJV).

As I thought of how I had been fretting and worrying only a few minutes earlier, I felt rather ashamed of myself that I had failed to trust God and His amazing provision. He makes provision even before we become aware of our needs.

He supplies what we need according to His riches in glory.

Before we call, He answers, and while we are yet speaking, He hears.

What an awesome God we serve!
