No More Tears

Play/Pause Stop
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” —Revelation 21:4, NKJV

One day when a friend asked me to take her to the farmers market, I experienced uncontrollable weeping. Just hearing those two words, farmers market, brought back a flood of memories. It was the last thing my mother and I did together before she died.

I had gone to visit her in South Carolina, United States of America, while I recuperated from a fractured ankle. Each morning I would get her coffee from McDonald’s, and we ended our day with a Southern home-cooked meal prepared by my mother.

Seven years later, it is still not easy recalling these events.

It was late February when my mother asked me to ride with her to the farmers market. I said yes, and off we went, stopping along the way at the roadside where farmers would come to sell their fruit, peas, and veggies. However, the farmers market was in another city close to where Mama would go to get her beautiful collard greens.

We spent the whole day going to the places she loved, visiting with longtime friends and family in rural South Carolina. I had no idea it would be the last day I would see my mother alive! The following day I headed back to Alabama, and just two short weeks later, my mother died from lung cancer. What a brave warrior! She was strong and powerful in her illness. There were no visible signs she was sick and that I would never see her alive again.

My reaction to the mere mention of the farmers market allowed me to see how tender my emotions were now that I had become part of that group whose mothers had left them through death. I now understand more deeply our Father’s love when He says, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Revelation 21:4, KJV). And Isaiah 25:8 says, “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces” (KJV). What a glorious day that will be! What a loving Father to give us such comfort and hope. How I love Him! If you love Him, too, say Amen!
