My Clivia Blessing

Play/Pause Stop
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. —Revelation 3:20, KJV

Spring! A time of mixed blessings. Along with the warmth and sunshine comes an increase in pollen and allergies. For many, it is a time of headaches, hay fever, itchy eyes, sinus problems, and a lot of Kleenex. And then there are the clivias.

On the edge of our porch, opposite the front entrance to our home, stands a sun-splashed spot that is filled with the most beautiful yellow clivias.

Right now, they are in full bloom. When I originally planted the clivia, I considered the most appropriate spot, taking into consideration the shade and movement of the sun. I did not even think about the added blessing of its position opposite my front door. Now, whenever I open the door, I am greeted by a delightful splash of yellow against the beautiful green backdrop of my flower garden. It is such a gift to me, directly from the hand of my Creator, and it serves to remind me that He not only takes care of my needs but also delights in giving me something beautiful to look at—just for the sheer pleasure of it! What a wonderful Savior! I am continually awed by the love of my God for me. As I consider the placement of the clivia in my garden, it makes me stop and think about where I position God in my life.

Is He front and center of all I do and see? Or do I keep Him tucked away and out of sight, only to be taken out on Sabbath? Or when I want something? If I place Jesus in the center of my life, I will be blessed daily by the beauty of His presence.

If I remain constantly connected to Him, my character will ultimately be transformed into His likeness, and I will naturally spread His joy and love to all those around me. Jesus told His followers that if they would “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness . . . all these things” would “be given” to them as well (Matthew 6:33, NIV).

So how is God positioned in your life? As Christ’s followers, let us give Jesus pride of place in our lives. Daily communion with Him is an important factor that will transform our lives, for it is by beholding that we are changed (see 2 Corinthians 3:18, KJV).

By opening the door of our hearts to God, we enable Him to work in our lives. Throw the door of your heart wide open to Him today!
