As I sat quietly relaxing on the compound of the City Hall and Arts Centre in Hamilton, Bermuda, I learned a humble lesson on doing what I can with what I have, where I am. If you are curious to know who my teacher was, I would have to tell you that it was some local birds. The timing was perfect because the groundskeeper was tending the lawns at the city hall, and the water sprinkler was on. It had been a hot summer day, and the birds took the opportunity to get a cool shower from the sprinkler. There was still plenty of water left for them to cool their thirst. Watching this scene unfold before me taught me many things.
While we might well need to aspire to greater things, we owe it to ourselves to use whatever is available to us in the present moment. If we are not able to use what we have now, what guarantee do we have that when greater blessings are poured out, we will have the capacity to handle them and realize the real value of the opportunity? If we can be grateful for the small blessings, then when larger blessings come our way, we will be able to receive and accept them. So, today, my dear sisters, what small blessings are you ignoring while you wait for bigger blessings? Are you ignoring the fact that you have loving family members who care for you while you wait to start your own family in the future? Are you aware that you have enough in the pantry to make a delicious meal while you wait for funds to go shopping at the grocery store? And could it be that you are ignoring the fact that you are actually in a good job that allows you religious liberty to worship, even though you desire a promotion or a better job? God watches to see how grateful we are for the small blessings He sends our way.
Are we fully enjoying His favor today and trusting Him to send the greater blessings when He sees fit? Let us give Him thanks for everything, and He will take care of tomorrow.
