Not of This World

Play/Pause Stop
“In him we live and move and exist.” —Acts 17:28, NLT

What does it mean to be a woman of God? It seems these days that being a Christian is almost taboo. The world we live in is constantly changing, developing and accepting new, ungodly ideologies almost daily. As a young woman growing into adulthood, trying to figure out who I am and my place in this world can be frustrating.

It can get overwhelming. Peer pressure is real.

I feel the push and pull to do the opposite of what I know in my heart God has called me to do. We all want to belong. It is always a temptation to do what everyone else is doing so we can fit in. I have had my share of being reckless and making poor choices.

I have had a taste of being immersed in the secular world. But I am learning daily that these are not the things that a woman of God should be doing.

And while the world tempts us to have some fun, the reality is that the world does not satisfy in any way at all. Living in and of the world is a constant struggle that leaves us always searching for more. It is true that this world is not our home.

We will never feel entirely fulfilled living here. God has placed women in this world for a special purpose. As each of us is unique, one of a kind, God calls each of us to a unique purpose. He has created some women to be homemakers, wives, mothers, and givers. Some He calls to serve as missionaries at home or abroad. Others He calls to be doctors, teachers—the callings and the gifts are endless. It does not matter what He calls us to do because being women of God has more to do with who He calls us to be—His daughters.

He wants us to see and understand that we are called to reflect Him and be His light in a hurting world. Being women of God means He calls us His own, and we are beautiful in His sight. Being women of God means understanding that we are not called to conform to the standards of this world. Ours is a greater calling: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10, NKJV). As women of God, we find our greatest joy in loving and serving our Savior!
