The God Who Hears

Play/Pause Stop
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. —Philippians 4:6, KJV

One Tuesday my alarm reminded me of my church’s weekly midday prayer time, and I joined the conference call. Soon after, my prayer partners Ann and Gail chimed in. Ann led out by identifying several prayer requests that had been shared by others—some in our church and others from our local university. Then we proceeded to share our own requests. When it was my turn to share, I mentioned that I was praying to resolve a matter that had been dragging on with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Ann petitioned the throne on my behalf. After our prayer time, I went on to do my part to try to resolve my situation. I searched online to find a contact number for the IRS and proceeded to make multiple calls but to no avail.

I scoured the web to find other contact numbers, searching for a chance to speak with a representative—the automated system was not helping! Eventually, I found a number that allowed me to speak to an actual person and not a machine! What a relief to finally be transferred to someone who could explain what was happening with my particular tax filing. My testimony today is that we should never underestimate the power of prayer. My sisters prayed on my behalf, and God delivered on that very day, only hours later.

He directed me to the exact number I needed to call and helped me connect with exactly the right person who could take care of my situation.

I was then able to acquire the supporting documents I needed to resolve the problem. My sisters in Christ, pray about everything because God hears and answers our prayers. Sometimes we get the answers right away, and sometimes we do not.

But we can be confident that God hears, and He will answer.

You may have been praying over many things or a few; you may have been praying for ages or a moment; your situation may be simple, complex, or dire but never lose hope. Continue to pray because our heavenly Father can and will deliver.

Never underestimate the power of prayer.

Take some time to find a prayer group or a trusted prayer partner and pour your heart out in prayer. We serve a God who hears!
