Pinpoints of Light

Play/Pause Stop
“Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the LORD rises to shine on you. Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the LORD rises and appears over you.” —Isaiah 60:1, 2, NLT

As of this writing, I am in quarantine for the second time.

The first time was precautionary. This time I am not so sure.

I am awaiting the results of the PCR test for COVID-19. The symptoms are mild, so I may just have an extreme case of sinusitis. The fear and despair coursing through me, however, have left an acrid taste in my mouth. COVID-19 summons feelings of trauma, loss, uncertainty, and emotional discord. Enjoying time alone is one thing, but having to isolate from family, seeing them from a distance in your own home to keep them from harm’s way, is something else entirely. Today I struggled. I love having my family in my space.

While I felt lonely and despondent at that moment, I knew I was not alone. I was not without hope. God does not abandon His children to the darkness.

He was right beside me, sending precious signals of His presence. It shone in the one ripe guava on the tree and sparkled through the young man at the medical center who offered me his chair. God showed Himself in the messages I received from loved ones.

I heard Him reminding me of His love in the songs and hymns of the Sabbath that evening. He promised me He would not stop the work He has begun within me. “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God” (Luke 12:6, NIV). He watches over every sparrow. He sees when they fall. Not one goes unnoticed by Him. How much more will He watch over me? Sisters, God reveals Himself in unexpected ways during our darkest moments. There are pinpoints of light if we look for them with the eyes of faith.

“Turn your eyes away from that which is dark and discouraging, and behold Jesus.”* He will show us the way to find strength, hope, and joy as He dispels the shadows and shines His light into our hearts and minds.
