“I have to go; I cannot stop crying,” I told my supervisor.
I do not remember how I got home or even seeing the road.
All I remember from those moments was walking into my bedroom, falling on my knees, and crying my heart out to the Lord. My marriage of sixteen years had ended. I could not believe it. I had no idea how I would keep going, let alone how I would keep it together. But I knew that I had to find a way for my children—my twelve- and ten-year-old sons. Doubt flooded my mind. I cried until it hurt. “Why, Lord? How did this happen?” I begged for answers. “What is going to happen to my children? How am I going to make it?” I closed my eyes and rested my head on the foot of the bed. It felt like I was resting on the Father’s chest.
In the silence, I heard Him say, “I am here. I have always been here. I’ve got you. I promise that you are not alone.” At that moment, I felt His embrace, and peace filled my heart and mind. Then I remembered the promise Jesus gave to His children through all ages: “I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20, NIV).
It was true! He had been with me during the sixteen years of my marriage, and He was with me when it ended. We can trust His promises.
I knew He would be with me until the end! It has been almost twenty years since that wonderful encounter with my Lord, and I still remember how it felt as though it were yesterday. When life gets tough, I remember the promise He gave me that day: “I’ve got you. . . . You are not alone.” You may be feeling lost and alone today.
My friend, Jesus’ promises are true. He is always by your side. If you are crying your heart out to Him, for whatever reason, just remember that He has been there for your every tear and every sorrow (Psalm 56:8, NIV). He is always by your side; He’s got you! Hold on to His hand, and do not let go. No matter what the situation or problem you are going through, He is never far away. Trust Him. Hold on. You are not alone.
