Our Father Has Promised

Play/Pause Stop
“There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” —John 14:2, 3, NLT

Saturday nights at our home are considered movie nights.

With my husband’s busy schedule during the week and after a wonderful day at church, it is the best time for us to just pause, relax, and enjoy a good movie.

Recently, we watched a movie based on a rescue worker who teams up with his ex-wife to find their daughter after a massive earthquake in California, United States of America. As we all know, with most movies of this nature, there is chaos, mayhem, and a lot of near-death moments, but the “good guys” usually survive the ordeal.

As I sat enjoying the excitement and critiquing all the things that were obviously impossible, well, except in movies, there was a point when the young lady was able to contact her hero father by phone. After he had expressed his joy to know she was alive and told of his love for her, he told her of a place he wanted her to get to and that he would meet her there and rescue her. With all the energy she could muster, she and her two new friends headed to the location her father had mentioned. At one point, though, it meant they would be going in the opposite direction of the crowd. One of her friends noticed and pointed it out to her.

He asked why she would want to go one way when the crowd was heading in the opposite direction. Her reply hit me hard. She said it did not matter what direction the people were headed; her father had promised. So long as she followed his instructions, he would rescue her. And he did! This sounds to me just like what God requires of us.

He told us He would come back to rescue us from this world of chaos and mayhem with many deaths and near-death experiences. All He asks of us is to follow His instructions, and He will save us—even when following His instructions means going in the opposite direction of the crowd. We just need to remember and follow His guidance, and we will be saved.

Despite those times when we feel like He is not coming back anytime soon, just trust Him. He loves us, and He is coming back to save everyone who has listened and followed His instructions.
