“It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear.” —Isaiah 65:24, NKJV

It was one of those beautiful sunny Sabbath mornings on the lovely island of Trinidad. I had just finished a wonderful worship session with my blood relatives all around the world (something we did every Sabbath morning). While I got dressed for the service at my local church, I sang the song “More Than Wonderful.” As I sang, the words of the song seemed to come alive. Jesus is more than wonderful! I was wrapped up in the song.

In fact, I was so happy that I fell in love with Jesus all over again.

But this was certainly not pleasing to the enemy.

At that time, my church was in the midst of an evangelistic series for which we needed to move equipment back and forth. Just as my sons finished removing equipment from my SUV that day, I had an unfortunate encounter with the gate at the church.

I could not believe it! I made this trip every Sabbath to the church, which was only one street away from our home. Why this unexpected damage to my vehicle? People know I cannot stand to get even a minor scratch on my car—and this was not minor! I turned around in the churchyard, checked the damage, and drove home to show it to my husband (for emotional support). Then I returned to the church to lead out in the song service.

Only God helped me to make the return trip that morning and have the presence of mind to sing “More Than Wonderful”—with a new meaning.

On Monday morning, not knowing where I would get funds to repair the vehicle, I called the insurance company adjuster. He gave me a repair figure.

As I checked through my accounts, I noticed some funds in one of them that I could not account for. When inquiring of the bank, I was told that the funds were from an account that had been opened twenty years prior when the home mortgage (utilities) account had been set up. Would you believe that this sum was double the amount I needed for the vehicle repairs? Oh yes, Jesus is wonderful, amazing, and marvelous, just as the songwriter says.

But, to this, I would add a further thought: We know that God, who sees the end from the beginning, knows what our future holds and just what we will need.

When the future seems dark to us, we can trust His heart of love.

He is God!
