I never know where the Lord will lead me next because He always takes me on an adventure when I work for Him. Years ago, I worked in a joint evangelistic meeting between the Church of the Oranges and the Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newark, New Jersey, United States of America. On one occasion, the Church of the Oranges hosted a job fair that drew over two thousand people! We distributed over a thousand copies of The Great Hope and Steps to Christ and were given a list of almost three hundred names to follow up on.
One of them was a young lady who had attended the job fair.
She shared an apartment with her sister and five nieces and nephews. This family had experienced much tragedy in their lives. Over the next few years, I ministered to them, and two are now taking Bible studies. I remember one Thanksgiving eve when the Lord impressed me to go shopping for them. It was the most memorable Thanksgiving of my life.
Then something happened that deeply touched my heart.
As I waited for the elevator after my delivery, this young lady came out of her apartment with all five of her nieces and nephews, ranging in age from three to fifteen. Lining up, from the youngest to the eldest, they each came and hugged me and said, “Thank you.” I stepped into the elevator with tears streaming down my face. As I walked to my car, I thanked God for once again answering my prayer. Each day I ask Him to let me be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud, and He never disappoints me. Early one morning I received the following email from this young lady. It read, “One day, I may die without saying goodbye to you, but I will never forget to say thank you because you hold the loveliest part in my life.” The treasures of this world are of little value, but to know that, by God’s grace, you have helped to lighten someone else’s burden is of endless worth.*
