A New Thing

Play/Pause Stop
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” —Isaiah 43:18, 19, NIV

It was a brand-new year, the beginning of a new month, a new day, and a new start, all on the same day. Awakening early that morning, as my habit, I looked out the window. My eyes were captivated by a spectacular scenic moment.

The bright yellow moon setting in the vibrant blue sky was as clear as crystal. Its brilliance lit up the atmosphere and everything nearby.

I was stunned. It was a special moment God had prepared just for me, and I felt incredibly blessed to be the recipient. The scripture that tells of God doing a new thing resonated in my mind. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:18, 19, NIV). As I stood savoring the moment, I sensed the nearness of God’s presence with me. A profound feeling of gratitude flowed through me, compelling me to express a prayer of thanksgiving to Him for this moment.

I thanked Him for His extraordinary favor in carrying my family and me safely through all the ups and downs of the previous year and for granting us the honor of seeing the beginning of another new year. At eighty-two years old, I do not have a clue of God’s plans for me or how He wants to use me this year, but I humbly surrender myself to Him and pray He will do a new thing in me. I want Him to fill me with the desire to faithfully follow Him and help me to serve Him willingly in whatever capacity He chooses. His words through King David encourage me to trust Him as I press onward. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:8, NIV).

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for forgiving all my sins and giving me incredible glimpses of Your unshakable love for me.
