Praise Ye the Lord

Play/Pause Stop
I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. —Psalm 86:12, NIV

I turn to God for everything. Everything! That is the problem. I have found that my communication with God has become one of ask! Ask! Ask! Life is filled with so many issues, so many circumstances, cares, burdens. I am not able to fix many of them on my own. Jesus told me to cast all my cares on Him, for He cares for me (1 Peter 5:7, my paraphrase). He also said I should bring all my burdens to Him, and He will give me rest (Matthew 11:28, my paraphrase). I take Him up on this offer. Constantly. The problem is that I forget to praise God. I forget to give thanks as often as I ask things of God. For example, I get on an airplane, and I pray and ask God for a safe journey. After the plane lands, with all the activity involved in disembarking, I forget to give thanks for the safe journey. I take God’s care for granted.

In Psalm 50:23, God says, “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me” (KJV). My connection and communication with God need to be one of worship and praise. He has answered my prayers; He has blessed me. His handiwork is all around me.

He makes so much possible. He cares about the little things in my life. Even when I think something is too small to ask God to intervene, He cares.

His presence surrounds me. I must praise Him. It is easy to call on God when things are bad, but when things work out, we often forget God is the reason they worked out. It is easy to think things work out because of our own effort.

While hard work and effort are essential, it is because of God’s hand in everything that we accomplish what would not be possible without His intervention. I praise God because of my relationship with Him—a relationship that will be reflected in all I do. Then, the world will see Jesus in me and want to know more.

I will be a witness to the love of God. It all starts with praising God and giving glory to Him. The challenge is to remember not to take God for granted.

So let us say with David, “I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever” (Psalm 86:12, NIV).
