Faithfulness in Little Things

Play/Pause Stop
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. —Psalm 28:7, KJV

God is faithful and unchanging and expects the same in return. Regardless of the life one leads, God remains constant, forever faithful to His nature.

Faithfulness carries with it a promise. The Lord promises to give much if we are faithful in the little things (see Matthew 25:21). God does not seek grand, expensive, or extraordinary gestures. He delights in the small things done well.

God will take those small acts and make them significant. God values the purposeful efforts of His children. This principle is exemplified in the life of Booker T. Washington, an American educator, author, and orator. Known for his significant work in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Washington’s efforts gained the attention of both politicians and the public.

His influence was substantial in black politics, earning him support from both the black community and the white population. But beyond his public accomplishments, Washington knew God personally and lived by the biblical foundation of focusing on small things. He was the first president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama and attributed his success to his belief in the importance of the little things. God Himself orders our steps and assigns our daily tasks, guiding us in actions that connect us to heaven.

The small things in life, such as visiting the sick, helping the needy, and showing kindness and compassion, call heaven’s attention.

These small acts lead to a purposeful, happy, and fulfilled life. They bring joy to others and also to us. Our loving God uses the seemingly insignificant aspects of our lives to reveal our commitment and love for Him. Small things can be difficult and tedious and may even feel trivial, but God sees the faithfulness in the doer of these routine tasks.

He rewards this faithfulness with greater responsibilities and bigger opportunities. Little becomes much in God’s hands. While it may be challenging to remain faithful and committed to God through small routines, God is attentive to every small task accomplished. As Jesus reminds us, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much” (Luke 16:10, NKJV). Faithfulness in small things is the secure preparation for more significant responsibilities.
