As I navigate the various roles and responsibilities in my life, from family to career and everything in between, finding true happiness can sometimes feel like an unattainable goal. In a world filled with life’s uncertainties and complexities, why does the pursuit of happiness seem so elusive? As a child I experienced challenging times, but I clung to the hope found in the Bible, specifically the verse in James that states, “Count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience” (James 1:2, 3, NKJV). My childhood experience taught me that true happiness does not depend on external conditions but is cultivated from within through a deeply grounded faith. Have you experienced the happiness that transcends the ups and downs of life, or are you still searching? I find that I am truly happy when I serve others. As women we can find happiness in serving others within our family, church, and community or in the workplace. When I give of myself, I enjoy a profound sense of fulfillment and purpose. So you may still be wondering, How do we find genuine happiness? “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come” (Proverbs 31:25, NIV).
Think about all the challenges you have faced and where you are now. I find that strength, resilience, and grace have led me to a deeper sense of happiness. “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10, NKJV). Trust God’s plan for you even amid uncertainty, cultivate a heart of gratitude, and focus on the blessings in your life.
Surrender to God’s will and trust in His promises. “ ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’ ” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV). I am learning that happiness is found in a deep and abiding relationship with God. Embracing principles of contentment, service, and gratitude helps me experience a profound sense of happiness.
As I seek to anchor my life in faith and align my heart with God’s truth, true happiness is a daily choice and not a destination; it is truly a transformative journey. My prayer is that we all experience the joy God grants us day by day.
