The Need of Him

Play/Pause Stop
But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. —Psalm 13:5, NLT

Throughout time and space, men have always looked for God.

Men tend to look for an encounter with God in the grandiose and awesome, equating their experience with the adrenaline of a conquest.

Men tend to think big in monumental, huge, and spectacular ways. And they migrate that form of thinking to their devotional life and walk with God.

They need the thunder; they need the imposing presence of the Almighty to shake them. But as every daughter of Eve through generations has known and learned, God most often displays His grandiose presence as He accompanies us in the daily chores and seemingly mundane tasks of our everyday lives. God meets His daughters at the kitchen sink; He waits by the ironing board, the washing machine, and even the toilet bowl and bathroom sink to encounter us where we are. He knows we are busy and can often feel unseen.

God knows we need His presence and His tender care as we are exhausted from caring for others in addition to the responsibilities we carry outside the home.

We do not need the grandiose; we need the tender Shepherd who loves and cares for His sheep and those who are with young. We need the love of our Master who has no prejudice or arrogance. We need the teachings of our Savior that apply to our lives and deliver the strength we need as we make our way through our daily to-do list.

We need His watching eyes over us and warm reminders that even if nobody else notices, He does. We long for our Savior’s coming.

We long for a break from the stress of this world.

We yearn to be in the presence of the One who lifts us out of the dust and tenderly raises our chins in gentle dignity. We need Jesus; there is no doubt about it. And as much as we hear about the awesomeness and miracles, I am so glad that He who can calm the storm stands alongside me, doing the dishes with me as I sing hymns in gratitude for the strength to keep going forward. What about you, my friend? Do you need Him? Then ask God to show you His care and guidance in every moment of the day—and hold fast to Him.

We need to cling to Him above all else.

Maranatha!
