God’s Got My Back

Play/Pause Stop
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God . . . will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:6, 7, NKJV

One Sunday last winter, I awoke and thanked God for being alive, but honestly, I felt overwhelmed and frustrated. Things were not going well at all, and to add insult to injury, both vehicles were acting up, the washing machine was giving problems . . . the list went on and on. I decided to put all the issues before God, including the fact that, except for our son, the rest of my family members were unemployed. I decided to pray every hour from nine o’clock to whenever the answer would come. And that I did. When it was approaching three o’clock, the Spirit said, “Pray now.” I obeyed, and after praying I sat for a few minutes meditating. At 3:02 p.m. the phone rang. I hesitated a bit, then answered.

To my surprise, it was a friend whom I had been thinking about the week before. We chatted a little, and then she said, “Would you be interested in going back to do legal work? A friend of mine is looking for a senior person. If you’re interested, please email your info to me so I can recommend you.” Without hesitation, I blurted out, “Yes!” Sisters, that was God who answered for me because I had told myself I would not work with another lawyer ever again. I had worked for thirty-three years at my last job and thought it was enough time spent in that profession. I sent my friend the information, and the next day, a Monday, before 6:30 a.m., I received a call for an interview. The person who interviewed me asked a few questions and then said, “I don’t need to ask any more questions because my heart is telling me that you are the one for the job.” That person is now my boss. Today, a little more than a year later, I am still employed, managing the office, receiving almost the same salary as when I left my former job six years ago. I am enjoying the blessings of the Lord. My prayer is that this testimony helps someone who is waiting in line for their blessing. God has our best interest at heart and is more than willing to bless us. Keep trusting—the blessings are on their way.

God is an on-time God, and He has our back.
