Some time ago I heard this story, which I would like to share with you today. Bill was a Christian construction worker who had a very positive attitude, and he always praised God for everything that happened to him. His coworkers made fun of him for his constant optimism and gratefulness to God under any circumstances.
One day while the construction crew was taking their lunch break, Bill sat under a shady tree, opened his lunch bag, and closed his eyes to say a blessing for his food. Before he could finish his prayer, a stray dog snatched his lunch bag and ran off with it.
Bill chased after the dog. He wanted his lunch back. After he had run quite a distance, he suddenly heard a loud blast behind him. When he looked back, he saw a huge cloud of smoke at the construction site. Apparently there had been an enormous explosion of some sort that left most of the workers who had been nearby badly injured.
Bill was very sorry and sad to see his coworkers badly hurt. He immediately prayed for his them and thanked God for protecting him from getting hurt in the explosion. If the stray dog had not run away with his lunch bag, and if he had not chased after it, he, too, would have been hurt in the detonation and suffered much pain.
Friends, please remember that when we put our faith and trust in the Lord, no matter what happens in our lives, we can trust God with the outcome. No matter how it may look in the moment, we can be assured that in the end God will work it out for our good. God knows the future, and He cares for His children.
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” (1 Chronicles 16:34, NKJV). What a wonderful promise.
My challenge for all of us today is to always live with an attitude of gratitude to our heavenly Father, who loves us more than we can ever know.
