Stop! Look! Listen!

Play/Pause Stop
Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things. —Isaiah 40:26, NKJV

God, Master Designer and Artist, created many beautiful things, and He did so for our benefit and enjoyment. We often hear the phrase, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” so I want to ask you, my dear sisters, to stop and look at the roses.

Not only are they beautiful—they also perfume the air.

During my years of active involvement in the Adventurer Club, I learned many lessons about different trees and leaves. A close examination of a mulberry leaf, for example, will reveal a delicate and intricate pattern.

Our God is truly incredible. There is nothing more delightful than to see a squirrel scamper along a fence or run up and down a tree. As soon as it hears the slightest sound, the squirrel stands upright—like a soldier in the army.

Try to approach it, and the squirrel will flee at lightning speed. My fellow dog lovers can relate to the joy found in seeing a dog lie flat on its back, just waiting for a belly rub. Dogs speak their own language when they bark, whimper, or growl.

Beauty is also in the ear of the listener.

There is no sweeter melody than birdsong.

God is interested in how we relate to all the beautiful things He created for us. Do we take them for granted, hardly noticing them, or do we stop, look, and appreciate the beautiful roses, majestic trees, or scampering squirrels? Do we pause to listen to the singing birds? God formed us in His image, and He wants us to see one another through His eyes. Every one of us is beautiful in our unique way. The psalmist David penned these words: “I will praise thee: for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14, KJV).

Let us take the time to really “look” at one another and “see” the beauty within—then speak an encouraging word. Kind words are a healing balm for a hurting soul. God has given us a precious gift: our shared sisterhood in Christ.

He provides opportunities for us to pause from our busy lives, to really see one another, and to lend an ear to a sister in need. Sabbath provides the perfect time and place for us to connect with one another. We demonstrate our love for God whenever we embrace one another with love, compassion, and grace.
