After a busy men’s ministry weekend in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, USA, my husband was headed back home. Our son, with his five-year-old son in tow, was a few miles ahead of him when he called his dad to let him know he was on the side of the road with a flat. My husband caught up to them, picked them up, and headed to the closest supercenter to pick up a lug wrench. They attempted to loosen the lug nuts, and when they could not, they headed home for some nourishment before trying again with a wrench of a different size that my husband had at home. After eating and gathering some tools, my husband tempted me to join him with the promise I would see both grandchildren. I headed back to the site where my son’s car still stood. We met our son, daughter-in-law, baby granddaughter, and grandson, and for the next few hours, the men worked to try to loosen those stubborn lug nuts. As the hours passed, my grandson pretended to drive me from one fast-food restaurant to the next.
We ordered all types of treats, and he was completely content sitting on his Bibi’s lap while the adults became increasingly frustrated.
Before making another trip to an automotive store to purchase a different-sized wrench, my husband prayed for patience and deliverance.
We returned to the stranded car on the side of the interstate, and the new wrench managed to remove the lug nuts, but now they were lodged inside the wrench! While back at the pretend restaurant with my grandson, I heard my son say, “Just forget it, Dad. I’ll call a tow truck!” But my husband persisted, and I continued to pray.
I watched my grandson—he was completely happy! He knew daddy’s tire was broken, but he knew his daddy and his G-Pop would take care of it.
And they did. After much time and persistence, lost car keys, more prayer, and found car keys, the saga ended well. In Matthew 18:3, Jesus encourages the disciples not to be concerned with the things of the world but to be like a child and trust Him completely. Like my grandson, we have a Father who will take care of our problems, so we do not have to fret. Friends, when we ask God for help, we do not need to stress or worry.
Our heavenly Father has it under control!
