The Lost Keys

Recently I have been creating my own gift baskets, making them as personalized as possible. I had just finished with one basket and started to pack away the extra wrappers, ribbons, and other goodies that I keep on hand. As I filled the storage bag, I heard a clinking sound but thought nothing of it—I have all kinds of paraphernalia in the bag, and it could have been any number of things. Later that evening someone called to tell me they were delivering something to me and were close by. I headed for my bunch of house keys, which I always keep in a specific place. I went to the stairwell, which is where I keep them during the day. It makes for quick access in any emergency, whether I am upstairs or downstairs, but the keys were not there. Surprised but not alarmed, I calmly went to the lock on the inner doorknob of my bedroom door, which is where my keys are placed at night. Nothing! Panic began to set in because these two places were home to my keys. Although I was locked in my house, door and grill, and I had a set of duplicate keys, I had no intention of sleeping in the house without knowing where my keys were. In major panic mode I checked several unlikely places, including my refrigerator! Only then, I am ashamed to say, I prayed. Soon I remembered hearing the clinking sound earlier in the day. I found the storage bag and emptied it, and there I found my bunch of keys.

Evidently they had been on the table as I packed up everything for my baskets, and I had picked them up with the rest of the things I was putting away.

A few days later I heard one of my favorite preachers, Pastor Debleaire Snell, say that Jesus, when performing His first miracle in Cana, told the servants to fill the jars to the brim with water, and it all turned into wine. If they had filled the jars only halfway, they would have ended up with only half jars of wine. Likewise we should not limit ourselves in what we ask of God because in so doing we may limit the blessings He has for us.

I have often prayed for minor things and received answers, but unfortunately panic over my keys made me forget to pray right away.

Let us not use God as a last resort but go to Him immediately.

He is willing and able to supply all our needs, major or minor.
