Rain

Play/Pause Stop
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. —Matthew 7:7, 8, KJV

The summer was almost over, and I still had not scheduled my daughter’s graduation celebration. It had to be soon because everyone would be headed back to college, leaving us with no friends or family with whom to celebrate her achievements. Invitations were sent out digitally, asking everyone to RSVP—ASAP. The response was rapid.

About forty people confirmed they would attend. Due to time constraints, no venue was available for the celebration, so my backyard would have to suffice. Not a problem. We have a big backyard and had successfully hosted several events.

On Monday before the event, while away, I received a frantic call from my daughter to say the weather forecast predicted a 100 percent chance of rain on Sunday. She was genuinely concerned because she knew the event was scheduled to take place in the backyard. I calmly told her I was aware of the forecast and had already taken it to the Lord in prayer. She laughed and said, “I guess you could host the event inside. Just be prepared.” Then more seriously, “Mom, the rain has been falling since you left and is expected to keep falling until Monday.” I repeated that my God had been made aware of the situation and my needs.

My daughter added her sister to the call, and they both said, “Only mom and her crazy faith.” We laughed as they hung up the phone.

The rain fell all week until the Sunday morning of the celebration. My husband noted that the backyard was saturated, and even if the rain held up, it would not be suitable to host an event. I asked him to put up the tents on the front lawn.

“It will stop raining soon,” I said. “I have already spoken to God in prayer.” A little before ten o’clock, the rain stopped completely.

The sun came out, and the graduation celebration was an enormous success. It was not until all the guests had left and everything cleaned up that the rain came down again and fell until the next morning. My sisters, Jesus said, “Do not be afraid; only believe” (Mark 5:36, NKJV). Let us continue to trust God. Know that all things are possible through Christ Jesus.
