Rainbows

I live in Houston, Texas, USA, where storms, especially hurricanes, are a part of the weather experience. It is not an uncommon occurrence to have a severe downpour in one section of town while only a few blocks away—nothing! A recent weather experience was unique. Storms were all around, but none in our neighborhood. Our pastor was holding a crusade, and my husband and I planned to go to the church for the evening meeting.

We discussed whether we should go early, just in case the weather worsened. We do not live too far from the church, but often it will rain at the church while it is still clear at home. On this particular evening the sun shone brightly around our house, and we were praising the Lord for His hand in calming the storms in our area.

We prayed that the people who planned to attend the evening meeting would have safe passage. As we neared the church, we turned a corner and were startled to see a perfect rainbow arching the sky. It was unique because we often see partial rainbows, but a complete one was something special. I wanted to remember this experience, so I took several pictures. We both rejoiced as we continued down the road, following the rainbow all the way to church. When we reached the church doors, I asked the greeter if she had seen the rainbow. She was quite surprised and asked me to stand at the door while she took pictures.

Everyone who came through the doors that evening had their attention drawn to the rainbow. At the sermon’s close an appeal was made.

When I looked up, I realized I had not seen her before. She seemed troubled when she came forward but appeared at peace as she returned to her seat.

When I arrived back home, I received a call from one of the elders. She stated the young lady had told her that she had seen the rainbow and had followed it for twenty minutes to the church. The rainbow seemed to be positioned right over the church, and she felt the Lord had provided the rainbow especially for her! Friends, our God is still a covenant-keeping Savior! When storms arise, look for the rainbow.
