Nun: Faithful to the Last

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. —Psalm 119:105

Many walk our world in darkness.

They drift along, content to take things as they come, with no thought for their future and no anchor for their soul.

They might have a vague understanding of the plan of salvation and perhaps some idea of heaven and how to attain it but are too busy to care much about such things.

“The Word of God illuminates the way so that men may walk safely in the spiritual darkness of this world [Psalm 119:105]. He who has this light to guide him need not stumble even though his path is beset with evil.” “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19).

The Bible shows us Jesus Christ, the Light of the world.

His shining words and example light our way.

That is not to say a Christian will never have difficulties or trials (Psalm 119:107).

“Service to God does not guarantee freedom from difficulties or sufferings ([‘For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake’] Phil. 1:29). Trials develop noble characters.” The path of the wicked is broad and often enticing. David understood both affliction and enticement.

He realized his future depended on his daily decisions, and in this, he vowed to keep God’s law (Psalm 119:109). Evil men tried to lead him astray, but he promised to persevere in following the Lord’s precepts (v. 110). David resolved to follow the Lord in all things, even if it cost him his life (v. 112). “When it is in the heart to obey God, when efforts are put forth to this end, Jesus accepts this disposition and effort as man’s best service, and he makes up for the deficiency with his own divine merit.” This is the key to acceptable prayer.

One must walk in obedience.

“O Master, let me walk with Thee / In lowly paths of service free; / Tell me Thy secret; help me bear / The strain of toil, the fret of care.”
