Shin: The Law Brings Peace

Play/Pause Stop
Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. —Psalm 119:165

David did not rely on feelings when considering whether to praise God.

Whether discouraged or joyful, sad or elated, sorrowful or jubilant, he praised God, no matter what the feeling. Circumstances did not alter his relationship with God.

Nothing could shake his faith. There were times when he felt lonely and forsaken.

There were times when he felt God had abandoned him and his prayers were ascending no higher than the ceiling of his room, but at no time did he cease to pray.

At no time did he turn his back on the Lord and walk away.

David understood trials come to all who would lead godly lives.

Satan does not give up tempting those who have taken a stand for the right. In fact, he redoubles his efforts to win them back to his side.

Sometimes it seems things become even worse when a person is trying his hardest to do what is right. The one who loves the commandments of the Lord will be at peace with himself. “There is no peace in unrighteousness; the wicked are at war with God. But he who receives the righteousness of the law in Christ is in harmony with heaven.” David wrote concerning those who love the law that “nothing shall offend them.” There is a clear demarcation between what is right and what is wrong. Nothing is a stumbling block to a Christian. “They walk with firm and steady step along the straight path of God’s law and do not turn aside to the bypaths of sin.” “To those who love God it will be the highest delight to keep His commandments and to do those things that are pleasing in His sight. . . . “There is no mystery in the law of God. All can comprehend the great truths which it embodies. The feeblest intellect can grasp these rules. . . . “Obedience to the law is essential, not only to our salvation, but to our own happiness and the happiness of all with whom we are connected.” “Perfect submission, all is at rest, / I in my Savior am happy and blest, / Watching and waiting, looking above, / Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.”
