We Will Never Grow Old

Play/Pause Stop
Even to your old age, I will be the same, and I will bear you up when you turn gray. I have made you, and I will carry you; I will sustain you and deliver you. —Isaiah 46:4, BSB

At the age of twenty-five, I often thought people in their fifties were old. It never occurred to me that one day I would also grow old. I was young, energetic, and vibrant. How quickly time flies and changes a person’s perspective. Now here I am! Honestly, I did not plan for this season of my life, so it has caught me unprepared for the aches and pains that assail me.

Several years ago, I read a thought-provoking article about the winter season of our lives. At the time, I thought it was pretty interesting because I considered myself still young. But my life has changed significantly since then.

Time has a way of rushing by and catching up with us before we realize it. My friends complain of aches and pain, and I now find myself doing the same.

But you know what? God is so good.

Every morning, I am the recipient of His inexhaustible love, forever faithfulness, and blessed assurance of His presence through all these changing seasons.

I give Him my praise and gratitude that even at eighty-one, He continues to use me to speak for Him. Maybe you have not yet reached your winter season; however, if you live long enough, moments will come when you will feel discouraged and downhearted and unable to perform the tasks you planned. You will be tempted to wallow in self-pity and doubt.

Do not do it. Rather, ask God to banish fear from your heart and give you wisdom, strength, and tenacity to finish the work He has assigned you.

Yes, we live in troublesome, chaotic, and heart-wrenching times.

Corruption, destruction, heartache, pain, sickness, COVID-19, grief, and death fill us with fear and anxiety. We feel the pain. God never promised us problem-free lives.

He said His hand will guide us and will be with us until the end of the age (see Matthew 28:20, NJKV). God’s promises are steadfast and true.

So, do not let your heart be troubled.

Today’s verse assures us that even in our old age, He will carry us.

One day, He will take us to that beautiful land where we will never grow old.

Oh! What a day that will be! Maranatha!
