God can get very creative with His lessons, and I thank Him for that because it keeps things interesting. On a very bright Sabbath morning, my husband prepared fruit for breakfast while I did my Bible reading. As I meditated on the fact that God’s children need to walk closer to Him and let Him cleanse us from all sin, a plate of freshly cut mango was placed in front of me. Oh, the joy! I mean, joy if you like mango as much as I do.
As I started to eat the fruit, I noticed it tasted like garlic.
How could this be? The taste was faint but still there—and there was only mango on the plate. I asked my husband why the mango tasted like garlic.
He was surprised. He mentioned he had used the knife that lay on the cutting board without knowing it had been used earlier to mince garlic.
As he spoke, God impressed me with the thought that, as His children, we often have small, unnoticed things that need to be surrendered.
While others may not notice, they are present before God, who sees it all.
Of course, when God impressed me with this thought, it was not a harsh and exacting thought but one accompanied by compassion.
God desires to help me be the best version of myself, a version that reflects God’s image. This is not an easy task for us but a very easy one for God if we give ourselves completely to Him. God sees our desire to serve Him and to love Him, and He knows the honesty with which we approach Him. He knows our hearts and wants to bless us beyond measure; He wants us to live forever with Him in heaven. So let us choose today to allow God to cleanse and sweeten our lives with the sweet fragrance of heaven. Ask God to help you spend time with Him, to help you see His love for you. He just might use a plate of fruit to encourage you.
We live in hard and trying times, but even in the most difficult of situations, God is there for us, and His presence will make all the difference.
Seek Him today.
