So Much More!

Play/Pause Stop
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine . . . to him be glory . . . for ever and ever! —Ephesians 3:20, 21, NIV

I could no longer afford to run my car and had planned to sell it.

I knew the Lord was directing this next chapter of my life, but thoughts on how I would manage on a much lower income still niggled. I had created a simple spreadsheet showing my income and my living costs. But no matter how many times I scanned the columns, the result was the same. On top of that, the mechanic had confirmed just days before that the engine had gone. I could not afford to repair it. Selling would not help much.

At best, I might get a couple hundred from a salvage merchant.

Inexplicably, two days after leaving the mechanic, the car started to work perfectly. That day, I drove to my office and parked in my usual space on the street.

Five o’clock came and went, and darkness fell as I continued to work at my computer. I knew I had to be moving house in six days and wanted to complete my current project before then. Bang! A loud noise outside startled me. I got up to look out the windows and listened for further sounds. Hearing none, I shrugged my shoulders and went back to work.

When I got home that night, I ate a quick supper and went to bed.

The following morning as I stepped onto my driveway, I immediately understood the loud bang I had heard at work. All along the driver’s side of my car was a terrible gash.

The metal was crumpled and torn. Even the gas tank had been damaged.

Yet I had driven home the night before and not noticed.

I called the insurers, who, after asking me to describe the damage, assured me that because of the age of the vehicle, it would be classed as a write-off.

They quoted me an instant settlement figure of £1,600 (about US$1,800).

“When will you collect the car?” I asked, hoping it would be before my house move. “Oh, we will send someone for it in two to three days.” Within twenty minutes, the money was in my account. Three days later, they collected the car.

“Thank You, thank You, Lord,” I repeated the words over and over. God was taking care of all the tiny details, easing my worries and calming my anxieties.

To Him be glory, amen!
