Broken

Play/Pause Stop
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. —Psalm 34:18, NIV

Oh no! I stared at the soaked bathmats.

The dripping faucet had once again splashed water across the floor.

Broken! After I started the cleanup process, I looked over at the sink and remembered my husband and I needed to replace the cracked sink too.

Broken! That was not the end of the list of work needing to be done.

But my thoughts were disturbed when I turned to check on the children at play. There, staring at me, was another item to repair. Our boys had once more damaged the window treatment in their room in their constant efforts to peer through the window.

As I assessed the situation, the same overarching theme came to mind—broken! My dear sister, do you feel as though there are too many broken things in your life today? Well, be comforted by the fact that you are not alone. You may feel broken emotionally from an abusive relationship or trauma, physically broken by illness or an accident, or even financially broken by medical bills, a divorce, or unemployment. Whatever the cause of your brokenness, be comforted by Psalm 34:18. God reminds us that He is close to the brokenhearted and promises to save those who are crushed in spirit. God has the power to bind up and heal our brokenness.

Many of us may feel broken, but our brokenness does not define who we are.

We are God’s precious daughters who were created in His image to fulfill His mandate for our lives. If all you can see around you right now is brokenness in your home, brokenness in your church, and brokenness in the world, keep your eyes focused on God’s promises. He is going to return and take us to heaven to be with Him.

Forever. In heaven, there is no brokenness! Instead, we will find love, peace, and joy. Jesus has gone ahead to prepare a place for us, and He will return to take us home, where we will spend eternity with Him. In heaven, our brokenness will become wholeness.

Jesus can and will make us whole again.

But the process of healing from brokenness can begin here on earth. We can learn to find a new outlook on life. Seek help from trusted family, friends, or our faith community.

Find Godly professional help.

And we can pray! Won’t you join me in praying today that God will begin to make us whole again?
