I Can Hardly Wait!

When I was a little girl, I loved going to my grandpa’s.
It is where I spent the first several years of my life, and I cannot think of a time after that when I was not longing to go see him! The drive from my house to his seemed like an eternity, but then we would turn off Main Street into the driveway.
Almost before the car could come to a stop, I would jump out and run into his waiting arms, and suddenly everything was right in my world! Time would fly by way too quickly, and at the end of every visit, this same conversation would take place.
Grandpa would say, “Can Tawny spend the night?” My mother would say, “That would have been nice, but she does not have her pajamas or toothbrush.” And then I would say, “Wait a minute!” as I made a mad dash to the car. In a flash, I would return with a brown paper bag, and what do you think was in that bag? That’s right, a nighty, a toothbrush, and a change of clothes. Do you think I got to spend the night at Grandpa’s? You bet I did! Why? I had prepared, and I was ready! I do not believe I ever missed an opportunity to spend time with my grandpa.
We know Jesus is coming back, and many of us are waiting for that great getting up morning when we will see Him face-to-face. But did you know that how we wait for His return makes a difference? Heaven is, after all, a prepared place for a prepared people.
Ellen G. White writes, “We are waiting and watching for the grand and awful scene which will close up this earth’s history. But we are not simply to be waiting; we are to be vigilantly working with reference to this solemn event. The living church of God will be waiting, watching, and working. None are to stand in a neutral position. All are to represent Christ in active, earnest efforts to save perishing souls.” Just imagine how it will feel to arrive at our heavenly home. As we run into Jesus’ waiting arms, we will know at that moment that everything will be right as we step into eternity with the One who loves us best.
