Shades of White

Play/Pause Stop
The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels. —Revelation 3:5, NIV

Over the years, I have acquired ten pieces of furniture that now supply the décor for the eating area in my apartment: a table with two matching chairs, plus two wicker armchairs, a trunk, a fern stand, a small side table, a large basket of silk flowers, and a folding screen. All are painted white. Only half of this assortment was originally painted white.

Some pieces were dark; one was black and jade.

Though well-painted with several coats of white, the various items are now many shades of white as they age. As we read in God’s Word about the gates in heaven, His throne, and even the streets, it is obvious that heaven is a colorful abode of sparkling jewels and intense color such as humankind has yet to see. I especially want to see the emerald bow.

However, the many texts we read indicate the color of the saint’s heavenly apparel is white, representing purity and innocence.

God has provided fine linen, “bright and clean,” for His people (Revelation 19:7, 8, NIV). White is the traditional color of a bride’s gown.

The heavenly white is not of many shades but a bright white.

It is not a white that will grow old or lose its luster and brightness, nor is it a bleached white brought about by a Clorox soak.

Angels are described as wearing very brilliant white linen garments.

Dazzling white! There are many gifts waiting for us in heaven, including our new wardrobe of white and the three gifts all overcomers receive: some of the hidden manna, a white stone, and a new name. The manna given during the forty years of wandering was a symbol that we need Jesus daily. White stones were used to cast a vote of innocence in the ancient courts, and Christ’s name will be on our foreheads.

These gifts serve as a special welcome into heaven’s realm.

I am sure that even the thread used in the loom creating our new attire will glisten brightly. I can hardly wait; how about you? Maranatha!
