A friend of mine once told me, “You only live once. Got to have fun!” She told me this after sharing how she always made time to go dancing with her friends.
She seemed to enjoy a busy social life. Her words reminded me of a popular acronym in American pop culture—YOLO! It stands for you only live once! As Bible-believing Christians, we know that is not true. The Bible says that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ will receive eternal life (John 3:16). The promise of eternal life will start when Jesus takes His faithful followers to heaven. As we get caught up in the clouds to be with Him, our bodies will change from mortal imperfection to immortal perfection (1 Corinthians 15:52).
In the New Earth, we will live forever in the presence of God.
We will be together with loved ones who died having faith in Jesus Christ.
It will be the greatest family reunion we will ever experience! Death will never separate anyone again. It will no longer be a part of our story.
Sin will never enter the picture again (Revelation 21:4).
Satan and his evil angels will finally be destroyed, and we will live in perfect peace. But to partake in this amazing reality, we must die to self and live for Christ (Galatians 2:20).
Meaning, we do not get to fulfill our carnal desires, which are at enmity with our Creator. We do not get to indulge in a lifestyle of sin. Instead, we get to live for Jesus! Every day.
Living for Jesus is counterculture to the world’s way of doing life.
It must be, for God’s way is the only path that leads to eternal life.
When you adopt a YOLO mindset, anything goes! But when you live with heaven in your heart and on your mind, you know that you cannot take earthly pleasures and treasures with you when you die. You can take only your character to heaven.
That is why God works so hard to help His children develop characters that look like His. He has something far beyond YOLO to offer.
He offers everyone eternal life.
I choose to live for eternity.
Will you join me?
