My husband and I inherited our son’s stray alley cat, Sammy, after he moved to another state. After packing and loading the truck, he was ready to leave, but Sammy absolutely refused to get into the truck. Sammy became physically aggressive when any attempt was made to put him in the vehicle. So Sammy was left behind in an empty house and yard.
A few days later, my husband and I made a trip to the house to tie up loose ends. Whom did we see upon entering the yard? Sammy! When it was time for us to leave, we told Sammy to get in the car, and he jumped right in and made the seven-hour road trip with no problems. Then he had to adjust to a different house, yard, surroundings, and people.
Late one night, I heard cats howling outside.
I jumped out of bed and ran to the door to find Sammy being attacked by two big ferocious cats I had never seen before. I quickly opened the door so that he could come inside. Another time, our neighbor’s dog chased Sammy up a tree.
By this time, Sammy must have wondered what he had traded by leaving his familiar surroundings. Then one day, that same neighbor’s dog threatened me as I tried to go from the house to the garage. I got a broom to fend him off, but as I opened the door to step out, Sammy came around the corner with such speed and intensity that I could only stand and look on in amazement as he chased that dog back to his yard. I had never seen a cat chase a dog! When I told my husband, his look showed that he thought I was embellishing the story.
A few weeks later, our neighbor asked my husband what kind of cat we owned. He had happened to witness Sammy chasing the dog and had never seen such a sight either.
That verified my account of the story. You see, Sammy had realized that he belonged to us, and he no longer lived in fear. We belong to God, my friends.
We have no reason to allow the enemy to scare us into thinking he is in control. God’s many promises assure us we are His.
We can claim His promises and send fear running back from where it came!
