I Am Not God

Play/Pause Stop
That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. —Isaiah 45:6, KJV

My niece was just weeks away from her college graduation—from the same Christian college I had attended and graduated from.

Then she discovered she owed $5,000.

It brought back memories of my graduation.

I also had a balance and no money. But God worked a miracle for me. As I thought about my niece’s plight, my brain went into overdrive.

What could I do to help her? Ideas popped around in my head like popcorn. I called and shared some of my wonderful ideas. I gave her scriptures to read and promises to claim, like Matthew 7:7, 8 and Mark 11:23, 24. I told her to stand on the promises of God and to trust Him. The next morning, while in my kitchen, I asked God what I should do.

He gently reminded me that I was not God; He was! I said, “OK, God! Just show her who You are, just as You did for me, and use this as a means to draw her closer to You.” I had previously asked her to let me know if she wanted to implement any of my wonderful ideas and to call me the next day. When I did not hear from her, I called her mother, and she gave the phone to my niece. She explained that at the beginning of the semester, she had dropped a three-credit class, leaving her one credit short before her loans could be applied.

The financial aid counselor told her that her academic advisor would need to approve a one-hour credit for an independent study. She would just need to submit a paper to get the credit, and the monies would be applied to her account, and then she would not owe any money at all. I told her to start writing the paper because the academic advisor would surely agree.

But God was about to show me that He was God.

My niece spoke with the academic advisor and was told it was too late to apply credits for the semester! She also told her she might be able to find some money for her.

Her advisor found $4,700, and $300 was applied from her work-study.

She was able to graduate from our beloved college, now university, in Huntsville, Alabama. Is there anything too hard for the Lord? Absolutely not! We just have to remember that He is God and not us!
