What would this world be like without birds? How glad I am that God made all kinds of birds at Creation. Early one morning, while the air was still cool, I walked to my gate to enjoy the fresh morning air. At that moment, my neighbor came by, and as I greeted her, a big black bird flew above me and left a messy deposit on me.
I was drenched from my head to my shoes.
I rushed inside to take a hot, cleansing shower.
We have an enemy who likes to mess with our lives when we least expect it.
God’s Word reminds us, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7, NKJV). I have a feeder for the birds that visit my garden.
The smaller birds come early, before the pigeons arrive.
The little birds fear the bigger birds, so they fly away. I have learned that “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7, KJV). In my backyard, I have budgies in cages.
My first budgie was green and named Mr. Mac.
Then I got a pair of identical blue budgies that I named after my two daughters, Heidi and Aurelia. They love to swing and look so content sitting there.
I am reminded that “in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content” (Philippians 4:11, KJV). Mr. Mac was lonely, and his bachelor days ended when we got a mate for him. Now he showers her with attention. He loves to open her beak to feed her.
At times, he follows her wherever she goes.
This reminds me of God’s never-failing love.
He promises He will never leave or forsake me (Hebrews 13:5).
He reminds me in Hosea that He loves me too much to give me up: “My heart beats for you, and my love for you stirs up my pity” (Hosea 11:8, NCV).
I thank God daily for the joy my birds bring.
With their songs and through the lessons I am learning from them, I can “rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4, NASB).
