Take the Wheel

Play/Pause Stop
With His feathers he will cover you, under his wings you will find safety. His truth is your shield and armor.—Psalm 91:4, ISV

I should have died. I should not be here anymore.

The more I think about what happened that day, the more I realize it is true. Let me explain what happened and why I believe I am still alive today.

A couple of years ago, my husband had shoulder surgery the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I was waiting at my sister-in-law’s house because COVID-19 restrictions blocked my access to the hospital’s waiting room. I spoke to the doctor post-surgery, and he told me that everything had gone very well. I waited for the nurse to call and let me know the discharge instructions so I could drive through and bring my husband home.

Finally, the call came through for me to pick him up, and I began driving to the hospital. I had just pulled out of the driveway and turned onto the street when it happened. I started to have a medical issue. A sudden, very quick thing happened.

My body was engulfed in pain, and I felt totally disoriented—as if I were about to pass out. I started to pray aloud, “Lord, please help me,” over and over.

Shortly after, I blacked out.

The street I was driving down crossed a seven-lane highway.

It had traffic lights and heavy traffic.

The next thing I remember seeing was a pole my car had struck.

Replaying this in my mind, I know absolutely, without a doubt, that God answered my request and had safely gotten me across all those lanes of traffic, including the two lanes of oncoming traffic, before stopping my car at the pole. God did that! No other cars were involved. No one was hurt. Not even me. Just my car. I walked away.

There should have been a horrific accident, and I should have died.

I had blacked out. On my own, there would have been no way to avoid hitting another car. I praise and thank God for His mercy. God heard my call, and He answered! Oh, the miraculous power of God. He, and only He, can perform miraculous things in our lives if we just ask. God loves us, all of us! He will protect us and work in our lives if we turn to Him.

Praise God! Thank You, Lord, for taking the wheel!
